Spire Healthcare is one of the UK’s largest private hospital providers with 39 hospitals and 8 clinics across England, Wales and Scotland. We also own and operate the sports medicine, physiotherapy and rehabilitation brand, Perform. The company offers a full range of integrated surgical, medical and diagnostic services.

Spire was formed from the sale of BUPA Hospitals to private equity company Cinven in 2007. Since then, it has periodically added further hospitals and clinics, including 10 Classic hospitals in 2008 and, most recently, new, state-of-the-art hospitals in Manchester and Nottingham, which opened in 2017. Since its inception, the Group has made significant capital investments in its estate, and continues to deliver excellent care with leading clinical outcomes and high levels of patient satisfaction.

As of December 2020 the Group employed over 14,200 (including bank workers) employees nationwide and has almost 7,500 experienced, self-employed consultant surgeons and other clinical specialists. 

In 2020, the Group generated revenue of £919.9 million. The Group placed its colleagues, facilities, services and equipment at the disposal of the NHS during 2020 to provide support in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, the Group made a loss (adjusted before tax) of £18.5m.
